Artist Statement

Karen Bloomfield has been capturing her visual world in drawings since the age of 3. Early loss and challenge has led to Karen becoming an artist interested in exploring the dichotomy of relationship, society, religion and expectation.

By looking beyond the visually apparent, Karen intends for her images to evoke questions of intention, reality, good and evil, seen and unseen.

Karen’s influences have been early realist painter Caravaggio, as well as contemporary Odd Nerdrum, and surrealist painter Dali.

Living and working on the beautiful NSW Central Coast, Karen’s current interest in charcoal, oil & acrylic mediums provide a depth and detail of imagery which draw the viewer into a world apart.
